This program provides a unique opportunity for certified graduates of postgraduate programs in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy to develop their skills as supervisors. It is designed to further the professional's career by moving the analyst in a systematic way from the role of practitioner to the role of the practitioner/teacher.

In keeping with the comprehensive approach of NIP, the Supervisory Training Program is psychoanalytically oriented and emphasizes contemporary developments in psychoanalytic theory and technique, especially the relational approaches of object relations, self psychology, relational and interpersonal theories.

A weekly didactic seminar focuses on theoretical discussion and actual experience of the supervisory process. The emphasis is on relational models of theory and practice and will include psychoanalytic authors addressing a multicultural approach to supervision. This fall seminar is taught by Chuck Finlon, LCSW.

This program will next be offered for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Dates & Times

Group supervision and seminars are held on Thursdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, while individual supervisory sessions are scheduled at the convenience of the senior supervisor and the candidate.
