Vision

To lead the field in psychoanalytic education, empowering therapists of all backgrounds to transform their patients’ lives.

We envision a world in which suffering is alleviated through the work of our diverse and effective graduates. The National Institute for the Psychotherapies prides itself on leading the ongoing evolution of psychoanalytic theory and practice.

Mission

To deliver exceptional and comprehensive education to our students and outstanding care to patients of all backgrounds.

Our mission is to enrich the field of mental health with training in relational psychoanalysis and integrative psychotherapy. Our students provide quality, low cost therapy to patients of all backgrounds to help them address their challenges and move forward in their lives.

We offer unique and innovative programs, including specialized trauma-focused treatment of adults and children, with an emphasis on respect, compassion, and connection.

Values

NIP strives to offer relational psychoanalytic training and treatment equally and fairly.

We believe there is strength in diversity built on mutual respect, collaboration, inclusiveness, and open communication. We share a common purpose, where our differences are celebrated, and welcomed as opportunities to partner towards achieving our goals.

NIP’s Commitment to Antiracism

NIP is committed to being an antiracist organization. We acknowledge that the work of dismantling systemic racism is ongoing and that we are only at the beginning of this process. We recognize that the fields of psychoanalysis and psychotherapy have done harm and have contributed to the perpetuation of systemic racism. We at NIP are committed to looking honestly and critically at the ways in which we as individuals, and we as an organization, are implicated in racial oppression. We are committed to sharing in a collective responsibility to raise consciousness and disrupt practices that perpetuate systemic racism and other forms of oppression.

We recognize that the burdens of racial injustice have fallen disproportionately on BIPOC members of our community. We also acknowledge that antiracist work must take place alongside work to combat other forms of systemic bias. We strive to create a supportive, inclusive, and equitable environment in which each of us can openly and safely share our multifaceted selves. We endeavor to listen and learn from each other's individual stories and honor both our differences and our commonalities.
